For a facilities manager who needs to gain value for money it’s not easy when it comes to cleaning. There must be a detailed process for establishing the service required, expectations and how the contractor is suggesting that these are met. The service must also minimise business and h&s risk and clearly be sustainable. There should also be a clear mechanism in the contract for variations in cost due to any internal or external changes. Once it is clear that the proposed service is most likely to meet all requirements there is one final factor at play and that is the human element. Does the client feel confident and comfortable with the contractor’s management team? If not they need to start again and find value for money elsewhere.
